Wat Pho is an impressive, large temple complex located on Rattanakosin Island, south of the Grand Palace. Being one of the oldest and largest temple compounds in the city, this place is home to the popular Golden Reclining Buddha, a 46 m long Buddha statue 'laying' in a special hall.
Furthermore, Wat Pho houses the largest collection of Buddhist art in Tailand. There are several courtyards with buddha images to discover in this complex. It's a must-see for every Bangkok visitor.
Completed in the 16th century, this temple complex has been renovated several times and has gone significant changes in the last 200 years.
The temple not teaches buddhist religion and literature, it is also an important school in the fields of Thai pharmacy, Thai medical practice and especially in the field of Thai massage.
