Asiatique – The Riverfront
- by admin
Asiatique "The Riverfront" is a modern night market & dining place located at the Chao Praya river. Dating back to 1907, the docks and warehouses that can be seen at Asiatique today, were used by the East Asiatic Company as a trading and shipping hub. In 1954 the company ceased its operations and the site became obsolete and abandoned for many years.
In 2011, restauration and refurbishing of the port facilities began turning this place to what Asiatique is today: A trendy, colorful and shiny nightmarket / bazaar featuring over 1500 shops and over 40 restaurants and bars.
It's well visited after dark, but not overrun by tourists. So, it won't be a hassle to walk along the numerous boutiques.
Apart from the dining and shopping opportunities, it's the scenery at the prominade with a great view to the river and the nostalgic charm of the early 20th century, that attracts people to this location.
How to get there: The best and most panoramic way is to get to Saphan Thaksin BTS station and take one of the free shuttle boats at Sathorn Pier (250 m from the station) to Asiatique. You will know which boat to take when you see the long queue for the shuttle boat.
